Hearing Wisdom

Out in the open wisdom calls aloud … in the public square … at the city gate she makes her speech … Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. (Proverbs 1:20a, 23)

Out of the myriad of voices calling out to you in the middle of your work day, is the voice of God.

God is freely, tenderly, and passionately calling you to trust him and obey him.

God’s hand is outstretched toward you, beckoning you to come home! God is there to catch you when you stumble, and to hold you fast so that you do not fall.

As you go about your work, God is there to protect your soul from all harm that Satan may try to inflict on you.

When you experience doubts as to how you should respond to emails or people or situations at work, God is there to provide insight so that you can live a life that is rich in every dimension.

Right here and now, in the middle of where you work and live, wisdom is freely, tenderly, and passionately calling you to trust and obey! God is offering you insight into your workday. God is warning you not to be enticed by the people you work with.

When you are enticed by sin, God is there calling you to repent and return to the path of righteousness.

Set against the enticing call of sinners to pursue worldly gain at any cost is the voice of wisdom offering to pour out her thoughts and teachings to you. Wisdom offers you the choice between chasing after your desires or developing a godly character that is attractive to God and others.

Wisdom highlights the ultimate consequence of our decision to either listen to or ignore the voice of God.

Wisdom invites us to listen to God and enjoy the fruit of the Spirit. Wisdom warns us not to be enticed by sinners and experience the fruit of their schemes.

The paradox of the Christian faith is that when we submit to God, when we choose to remain within the moral boundaries God established, we discover we are loved, and our lives have purpose.

Regardless of your circumstances, status in life, your job, or your marital status you can choose wisdom! Then your life will be pleasing and attractive to God and your coworkers.

For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” (Prov 1:32-33)

Prayer Teach me to listen, Lord. Thank you that your voice of wisdom is calling aloud in my workplace. Pour out your thoughts upon me, make known to me your teachings. Teach my heart to cling to your cross. Teach me to love you. Amen.
