For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:6)
Jesus, Mighty God, is our Everlasting Father. The One who is holy and pure and without sin has adopted us as His own. It is almost incomprehensible that the Maker of the universe would identify Himself as our father.
Us. Sinful and fallen. Without hope and destined to be apart from Him forever.
And then He intervenes and gives us the gift of rescue. Anyone who declares that Jesus is Lord and believes that God raised Him from the dead will be saved (Romans 10:9). To those who accept such gift, He adopts as His own. See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God (1 John 3:1).
What kind of love is this?
Jesus is our good Father who provides our needs in ways that are immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. His plans for us give us hope and a future. He promises to be with us no matter where we find ourselves. And in His presence, we find love and acceptance and meaning. Who are we that You would be mindful of us, that You would know our names (Psalm 8:4)? You tell us that we are precious and honoured in Your sight, and that we are loved by You (Isaiah 43:4).Your thoughts concerning us, individually, are vast and outnumber the grains of sand (Psalm 139:18).
Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You are Everlasting Father. You are without end. And in You we find a Father who loves, rescues and restores us. Though our earthly fathers may disappoint and hurt us, You are a Father who is always good, always loving, always faithful, and always present. Amen
