Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:5-6)
The Lord’s power and splendor are evident all around us, and His might displayed in the expanse and mystery of the universe. There is no one like the Lord.
Yet, though He is King of kings, Jesus made Himself nothing (Phil 2:7), and entered our world in the form of a baby. And His presence changed everything.
Boots and garments worn in battle became useless and destined for burning because Jesus fights for us. We can rest because He took up the cross, conquered death, and through His death offered us salvation.
This Christmas season, let us dwell on the Lord’s awesome gift to us, and rest our minds on the character of Jesus.
Time of Reflection
Thank you, Jesus, that You are Mighty God.
Great are You, Lord, and abundant in power; Your understanding is beyond measure (Psalm 147:5). You made the earth by Your power; You established the world by Your wisdom; and by Your understanding You stretched out the heavens (Jeremiah 10:12). Nothing is too difficult for You (Jeremiah 32:17b).
Yours is the greatness and power and glory and victory and majesty; all that is in heaven and in the earth is Yours (1 Chronicles 29:11). Jesus, by You, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through You and for You (Colossians 1:16).This Advent season, we continue to acknowledge that You are Mighty God and we worship you. May our lives bring You the honour, glory, and praise that You are due
