For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Rom 1:16-17)
As Christ followers, we still have tasks and projects to complete, many of which can only be accomplished with others, and all of these require leadership.
Without leadership people begin to do what is right in their own eyes. God has placed some of you in leadership roles, and others of you in roles where you can influence your team.
Where can we learn about leadership?
One place to turn to learn principles about leadership, people, projects, and tasks is the Bible. Reading the Bible as a leadership textbook, we discover many principles about people and leadership that have been validated in the fields of psychology, sociology, and management throughout history. Reading the Bible in this manner does not require acknowledging God in anyway or accepting the Bible as God’s divine revelation.
Alternatively, we can approach the Bible as God’s divine revelation, a book that was written that we might rightly and savingly believe in God, and worthily honor him by living by faith. When we read the Bible through the eyes of faith, in addition to reading about principles of leadership and people, somehow, miraculously, God reveals himself to us. For it is not human reason that discovers God, but it is God who discloses Himself to us through the gift of faith.
As God reveals himself to us, we learn that there is an infinite gap between the kingdom of this world, and the Kingdom of God. Daily, as we reflect on the imperfect teams we lead, and God’s perfection, we are reminded of this chasm separating us from God’s Kingdom. In the Bible we discover that the cross spans this abyss. God, out of His infinite love for you and me, by His grace spanned this gap through the death and resurrection of Jesus, His Son.
In your leadership role, God invites you by faith to embrace Jesus’ redeeming work on the cross.
Thought for the day
How might Jesus’ redeeming work on the cross shape how you respond to the leadership challenges you face today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to be my Savior. Thank you for placing me in this role of leadership or influence over this team. Grant me your wisdom for the leadership challenges I face today. Amen.
