“Being confident in this, that He who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6
The British military motto, “Keep Calm. Carry On” is missing something. It is a good motto and worthy of remembering by us as followers of Christ but it is missing something. The missing element is, “Be Confident.”. British soldiers have confidence in themselves, in the skills they have learned and, in their brothers, and sisters in arms. So, it is with us but we have a higher source of confidence. Our confidence is in the Lord Jesus Christ, our divine advantage.
Confidence is our insignia. It is the cross shaped “trident” pinned to our chests that indicates our truest value in the territory Christ has assigned us. There despite our circumstances no matter how adverse or chaotic, we live in a state of calm and rest because we have been trained by Holy Spirit to see, think and understand differently and therefore to respond differently. We in fact speak a different language with our attitudes, words and behaviours.
The language of inner confidence is this:
I am absolutely convinced
the Father is utterly incapable of
losing sight of me, ignoring me or abandoning me;
nor is He capable of leaving me unfinished.
To Ponder
As you read the above declaration how would you rate your confidence in Jesus (Scale of 1 to 10 with ten being high)? What do you think needs to change for your confidence to increase or to become stable? How about sharing your ponderings with a trusted fellow traveller?
To Pray
Today I declare my confidence is in You Lord Jesus. Thank you for the good purpose you have in mind for me and for your promise to stay engaged with me, until it is done. I need this reassurance because some days I focus more on my deficiencies than my destiny. I am grateful you are utterly incapable of quitting on me. Amen!
