Finding Wisdom

    By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (Prov. 24:3-4)

    Do you know where you can find wisdom to respond to your emails, to understand and encourage your coworkers? Do you know where you can find understanding for the work you need to do? Can you find it among the living? Is it at the top of mountain, or the bottom of the ocean? Can you ask Alexa or Google for wisdom?  Can you buy wisdom with your credit card?

    Solomon suggests that finding wisdom begins with a right relationship with God. When we stand by faith in humble, trusting, obedience before Yahweh our redeemer, and acknowledge our dependence on him, then we have begun the journey to discover wisdom.

    God is wisdom! God is all-knowing! God is right and just and fair!

    God has established absolutes of righteousness, justice, and fairness, which flow out of his character so that we can stay on the straight path and not turn off to the right or the left.

    God freely offers to share himself with you so that you can know the wisdom to determine what is right and just and fair in your life and work.

    God’s wisdom can help you distinguish truth from falsehood. God’s wisdom can provide you with the insight you need for the perplexing questions you are wrestling with at work.

    The wisdom that God offers will bring you honor (Prov 14:18), strength (Prov 24: 5), and protection (Prov 22:12), but not necessarily as the world defines these.

    Godly wisdom places our trust not in what was created, but in the Creator himself. The One who bought us with the blood of his Son, the one who redeemed us. God’s wisdom leads to righteous behavior which results in us living a life that is rich in all of its dimensions every day.

    The secret to continue to grow in wisdom is to walk humbly, in obedience with your God. Continue to listen to what God is saying to you, move forward in obedience with God, and repeat.

    Proverbs 1:1-7

    1The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
    for gaining wisdom and instruction;
       for understanding words of insight;
    for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
       doing what is right and just and fair;
    for giving prudence to those who are simple,
       knowledge and discretion to the young—
    let the wise listen and add to their learning,
       and let the discerning get guidance—
    for understanding proverbs and parables,
       the sayings and riddles of the wise.
    The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
       but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Prayer Heavenly Father, I need your wisdom for today. Instruct me on what is right and just and fair. Give me knowledge so that I can speak with discretion in all my conversations today. Thank you that you are right, and just and fair. Amen.
