For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:6)

Though He is Mighty God, with His creation proclaiming His glory and majesty, He is also Wonderful Counsellor. The King of kings who came as a baby is the Wonderful Counselor to whom we turn for wisdom, guidance, and direction. There’s no better way to describe how Jesus guides and counsels us than what has already been written in the Bible.

His sovereignty, love and presence guide us. If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there; if I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will hold me fast (Psalm 139:8-10).

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4).

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze (Isaiah 43:2).

He counsels us in His ways, and provides instructions in the way we should go. Your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light onto our path (Psalm 119:105). You instruct us and teach us the way we should go (Psalm 32:8), and You guide us with Your counsel (Psalm 73:24).

He gives wisdom generously to all who ask (James 1:5). He is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom (Isaiah 28:29).

Prayer: You are Wonderful Counsellor who guides and leads us. Jesus, there is no one like You. Although You are Mighty God, You love us with such depth and intensity that Your love for us is beyond measure. Thank You for Your guidance, counsel, and deliverance. Thank You for Your presence in our lives. May we fix our eyes and thoughts on You, and allow You to instruct us and guide us through our days, and in every aspect of our lives, whether it be at work, or in our relationships and families, or finances, and in every other matter. May we hear You clearly and obey. Amen
